About Us

Friends of Quantock was founded in 1949 to counter a threat of large scale afforestation across the northern end of the Quantock Hills, and since then we have continued to monitor and oppose a wide range of threats to the natural environment of the hills.

We monitor all planning applications within the AONB and, where appropriate, make comments about them.  We are carefully watching the proposed nuclear power station at Hinkley Point to try and mitigate its affect on the hills.  We also keep an eye on footpaths, bridleways, fencing, rubbish and anything else that affects enjoyment of the natural beauty of the hills.

We have commissioned or supported many investigations, surveys and reports on specific areas of the flora and fauna of the Quantock Hills.  We have also given grants towards projects that enhance our knowledge of or the natural beauty of the hills.
